Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News that he would put pressure on Russia and impose additional sanctions "if he has to" and if there is no agreement after talks with Vladimir Putin. However, he expressed confidence that he would strike a deal with the Russian leader.

In an interview broadcast on Friday during a visit to Abu Dhabi, Trump said he would be able to reach an agreement with Vladimir Putin because Putin "is tired of this whole thing."

"It doesn't look good, and it wants to look good. Don't forget, this was supposed to be over in a week ," Trump said.

- If Putin were not stuck in the mud with his tanks and troops everywhere, they would be in Kiev in five hours , he added.

Trump Wants Meeting with Putin. 'I've Had Enough'

Trump said that the Russian leader wanted to meet with him in Istanbul , but he decided not to fly to Turkey because he "did not want to disappoint the United Arab Emirates," where he was visiting.

"We need to meet up and I think we'll probably plan it because I'm tired of other people coming and meeting up and stuff like that," he said.

The US may impose sanctions on Russia

In response to repeated questions from journalist Bret Baier about whether he would put pressure on Putin and impose additional sanctions on Russia – Baier recalled that Putin had disobeyed Trump's call to stop bombing Ukraine – Trump changed the subject several times, including suggesting that the money to aid Ukraine had been wasted.

Ultimately, however, he said he would impose sanctions if forced to do so.

"I've always been good at exerting pressure, I'll do it if I have to (...) I'll do it if we don't make a deal. That would be devastating for Russia because they're struggling economically and oil prices are low ," he said.
